Toyin Ores bands with The Cavemen for Kokose

Toyin Ores‘ new single “Kokose” is a gorgeous blend of Afropop, Afrofusion and Highlife which examines the wondrous feeling of love and things we do because of it. Toyin Ores exhibits a different side of himself in his recent work as he bands with The Cavemen, a two-piece Neo-Highlife band made up of Kingsley Okorie and Benjamin James, who have dominated the Nigerian music landscape with their distinct fusion of Highlife, Soul, and Afrobeat.

The record starts with vocal ambience rendered by Knote (Kingsley Okorie) and soulful chords played on an electronic keyboard by waveman03, all followed by infectious shakers that rhythmically usher you into the song. Toyon Ores discusses his need to take slowly, especially when it comes to love, as he begins the first stanza. The talented Benjamin James supports him verbally and lyrically as he enters the following stanza singing about a kind of love that destroys minds in ” This your love a bakala m isi, nwanyi nka…”  Rich jazz keys, live samples, live bass from Waveman03 and Kingsley Okorie, and the hook and bridge effortlessly blend into the background of the song. Toyin Ores (born Oluwatoyin Eyimofe Oresanya on April 18, 1995 in Ogun State, Nigeria) is a genre bending Nigerian Recording Artiste, Producer, and Sound Engineer who is based in Lagos, Nigeria. He started his musical journey in 2009 as a secondary school student who would play around with Audacity and Fruity Loops to make beats for fun – and to lessen the production costs for his friends’ studio sessions. It wasn’t until 2017, while he was pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, that he started taking it seriously.

Since then he has released a total of 3 personal projects, 2 Joint EPs and 13 singles, whilst producing for world class acts like ShowDemCamp, Tems, Wizkid, Shalom Dubas, and Lamii; and opened up for major industry acts like Mr. Eazi, Patoraking, Joey Badass, and Kyle.

Coming into 2022 he was looking to challenge himself in a way that would benefit his music and his positioning as an artist. So he set a goal to release a single every 2 weeks, while continuing to record and produce amazing projects for other artists (some of which are set to be released in the final months of the year). One of the best singles that came from that decision is his ‘KOKOSĘ’.
