Omah lay and Tems, arrested and charged to court in Uganda for flouting Covid-19 guidelines

Nigerian singers, Stanley Omah Didia known better as Omah lay and Temilade Opeyin alias Tems with her manager, Muyiwa Awomiyi have been arrested and charged to court by the Katwe Police on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious disease C/S 171 of the penal code in Uganda.

In a viral tweet yesterday from the Police’s official Twitter handle, they announced the arrest and it’s reason being a concert which flouted the country’s Covid-19 guidelines;

@Patrickonyango1 “Three people have been arrested in connection to the unauthorised concert that was held last night in Ddungu Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala City”.

Those arrested are Ivan Ddungu, the manager of the place where the concert was held, Omah Lay the musician and Prim Kasana, Events Manager, who contracted Omah Lay to sing.

An hour ago, the police went on to elucidate that earlier plans to have the artists released on bond have been withdrawn by the DPP( Director of Public Prosecution) and they, plus four ugandans will be remanded until Wednesday 16/12/2020.

Ivan Ddungu, manager of the event center, had posted yesterday on Facebook that they had clearance from the police and even security for  the concert provided by members of the Ugandan police force. While the artists and event planners erred as Corona is a public health matter and governments need to do all in their power to protect their citizens, the grouse for many Nigerians seem to be that Ugandan artists at the concert weren’t arrested only foreign ones. If at all artists and not show organizers are to be arrested, isn’t it fair for all artists to be rounded up. Is this justice or extreme high handedness to exude power?

Yemi Alade’s Empress is a party banger

Yemi Eberechi Alade popularly known as Yemi Alade, released a new album last week titled Empress which is a rich mix of diverse genres and a party banger right off the start. Empress is the igbo-yoruba singer’s fifth studio album following her critically acclaimed album, Woman of Steel. The album cover showed Yemi Alade looking very fierce and regal in African attire which is very on brand for her Mama Africa aesthetics. The album has rich songs crisscrossing Afropop, Gospel House, Coupe Decale, Highlife and Dancehall.

Empress houses power collaborations with both Nigerian and other African music superstars. The tracks in this album includes: True love, Yoyoyo, Mamiwater, Lose my mind featuring Vegedream, Dancina, Boyz, I choose you ft. Dadju, Control, Temptation ft Patoranking, Ice, Deceive ft. Rudeboy, Turn up, Rain featuring Mzansi Youth choir, Weekend featuring R&B Grammy winning British singer Estelle and double double.

The album also features songwriting and production contributions from Vtek Da Awesome, Egarboi, Jimmy Huru, Yung Felix, amongst others.

On creating her new album, the talented songwriter and singer disclosed ‘If there is one thing that we have learnt this year, it’s the power of Love & inner strength. Love for God, self, service & for one another coupled with the strength to fight injustice and to carry on regardless of the circumstances.

Love & inner strength kept the world moving through the dark clouds of 2020. With that in mind, I was blessed to create my fifth album titled Empress.’ An Empress is a woman who is a sovereign ruler of power and rank, especially one ruling an empire. It is undisputable that Yemi Alade seeks to dominate Africa with her music.

Yemi Alade rose to fame after winning the 2009 Peak Talent Show and released her hit single ‘Johnny’ in 2014 under Effyzie music limited. Yemi Alade not only continues to release hit single upon single but works harder at consolidating her place as the queen of pop in Africa. She does this solidly with Empress. It gives very good vibes and there is no way you can listen to this album without dancing. We give it a 7 out of 10.

Teni’s much anticipated single JO is out now

Popular Nigerian singer, songwriter and Entertainer, Teniola Apata popularly known as Teni has just released a new single titled JO. The 27 year old songstress who has bagged multiple awards including the 2019 Headies awards for viewers choice and Best vocal performer amongst many others is not desisting anytime soon from releasing hit singles to make us dance haphazardly at parties.

Jo’s upbeat instrumental and teni’s fun, loud delivery makes up the song’s happy, cheerful vibe. Just like many other hit singles of hers: Uyo meyo, Case, Askamayan and so many more, the song is eclectic in a way that  can only be Teni and perhaps that is what sets her apart from her afro-pop contemporaries. She teamed up with producer, Peace oredope to cook this boppy tune.

Staying true to its title Jo which means dance, Teni declares all through the song sometimes in English and other times Yoruba, that she will enjoy her life and love herself to the fullest. This one is for the people who cannot kill themselves over any matter and just want to party. Jo is one of the many amazing tracks from her upcoming album Wondaland.

Buju Secures Burna’s Midas Touch On ‘Lenu’ Remix

About three weeks after the initial announcement, one of Nigeria’s most promising acts, Buju, has released the long-teased remix of ‘Lenu’ featuring Burna Boy. This comes alongside the official announcement of his signing with the African Giant-led imprint, Spaceship Records. This would be Buju’s second release in 2020, coming just a couple of months after his ‘Mind Games’ team-up with Ejoya music.

Spiced with a very catchy sing-along hook, ‘Lenu’ was one of the records that propelled Buju to the limelight in his breakout year, 2019. Now coming through with a remix vocally backed by the hitman, Burna Boy, this club-friendly jam looks like a very good effort to usher him into the next level of his already promising career.

The accompanying visuals is a high school-themed video directed by the current go-to guy for top-notch visuals, TG Omori. Across the video, Buju goes about his day in school with an air that screams fly school kid. Burna Boy in his part plays the role of the big brother who helps boost his school rep coming to pick him up in a super cool convertible Rolls Royce. Buju is later seen mouthing his verse in a beautiful white house with Sia-styled models.

Just a few weeks back, Buju had a brief fall from grace when a leaked dm unveiled the vile side of the young singer’s personality. But with this thrilling Spaceship-debut, he might just be easing his way back to the hearts of music lovers.

GMK & Tomi Thomas’ ‘Lagos (Everyday)’ Is An Ode To Gidi’s Hustle Spirit

A few weeks ago, the acclaimed alte playmaker GMK reunited Sugarbana and Prettyboy DO on his year opening record, ‘Strong and Solid’. To follow it up, GMK has teamed up with his friend and frequent collaborator Tomi Thomas to release their new joint to unsuspecting fans. Dropped to help people get through these times, the duo has dished out a beautiful ode to our celebrated city titled ‘Lagos (Everyday)’.

‘Lagos (Everyday)’ is a meditation on the dominant hustle culture which the city it is titled after houses. This is one of the outstanding traits that separates Lagos from several others across the country. And even though the city is Nigeria’s financial capital, poverty is very much extensive even in the midst of plenty.

To give the listeners a first-hand feel of this culture, the song is littered with soundbites of Lagosians going about their daily grind on the streets of Lagos. The city isn’t exactly kind to those waiting for handouts, so everyone has to hustle for their bread regardless of its legality.

No doubt, GMK and Tomi Thomas did so well to soundtrack all that with this laid back and infectious record. And as expected the record finds GMK on the boards while Tomi Thomas and his guitar cruise smoothly over the mellow beat.

Given the frequency of GMK’s releases this year, it might be safe to start looking out for a new project from the producer, but until then enjoy this new record that comes highly recommended from us at the PGM Club.

Kwesi Arthur Assists Nonso Amadi’s New Single ‘Comfortable’

We are officially in the final stages of the rollout for one of the most anticipated projects of 2019. Nonso Amadi has joined forces with Ghanaian rapper, Kwesi Arthur to release a new single titled ‘Comfortable‘. This would be his last single before the release of the June-bound “Free” EP.

Comfortable‘ is a chilled and laid-back single in which Nonso Amadi warns his one-night stands not to catch feelings and fall in love with him because he is only here for the night. Kwesi Arthur also comes through with a solid verse and a polished flow that adds a new flavour to the record.

Free” would be Nonso Amadi’s sophomore solo EP, coming four years after the release of his debut, “Alone”. Alongside ‘Comfortable‘, this new 5-track EP is suspected to contain other pre-released singles like ‘Emergency‘ and ‘No Crime‘.

Amaarae Teams Up With Wande Coal On New Single ‘Spend Some Time’

Super gifted Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae has joined forces with Nigerian vocalist, Wande Coal on her new single titledSpend Some Time. This song is jointly produced by Obed and Rvdical The Kid. Rvdical The Kid also works with Mikemillz to mix and master the record.

Spend Some Time‘ comes after a long self-imposed hiatus from the Warrior Princess since the release of her critically acclaimed “Passionfruit Summers” EP. Although, it’s important to note that in this gap, she has appeared as a featured guest on a number of records. One of her most memorable performance is on Santi‘s ‘Rapid Fire‘. The 2018 smash hit in which she delievers a striking and memorable verse that left many craving for more.

On this Wande Coal-assisted mid-tempo record, the soft-voiced singer calls for her absent lover to spend some more time regardless of the conditions. With her amiable vocals,  her warmth shines through the record as her mastery as a lyricist is also on full display.

Wande Coal also delievers a beautiful performance and closes the record with a scintillating chant that is reminiscent of his delivery on ‘So Mi So‘. On the record, the two display deeply fascinating and seamless chemistry that sets the record on the straight path to radio success.

The David Nichol-Sey directed dark-themed video finds a lonely Amaarae on a red-sheeted bed, craving her absent lover. She then steps into the club to enjoy the night with her friends who are clearly excited to have her around.

Spend Some Time‘ is easy to sink to and therefore comes highly recommended from us at the PGM Club. Check out a snippet below.
