One of Nigeria’s most promising singers on the rise, Tomi Agape has released her first drop of 2020, ‘This Way’. This is the follow-up to the British-Nigerian singer’s ‘Full Moon’, released in October 2019.
Produced by C Biggz, known for his work with The Compozers as the keyboardist, ‘This Way’ is an afro-pop address to an erring ex-lover. Across the record, Tomi Agape reminds the lover ways he could have done better, but that’s all in the past now because she’s done with him anyway.
Tomi knows words are cheap. Especially the ones coming from a desperate lover. She doesn’t have any slight belief in them. She, however, places more value on energy, which they say never lies. “If we were meant to be, our love would show me that,” she sings.
But the vibe and energy she is receiving is a big NO for her. “You love to say you’re mine, you’re not mine hun,” she reminds him. This is not to say she doesn’t house feelings for him, in fact, she does. But this time, she’s rather thinking with her head, not her heart, because following the latter is a smooth and straight road to heartache. “Even though you dey pon my mind/ I don’t wanna waste no more time.”
And all this isn’t just unfounded. She had given in to love, but it all went south despite her investments. And now, love has made her this way. “didn’t want to have to move one, but I’m going to ….cause you crossed a line with me, baby.”
