Just a couple days after releasing her latest album “Celia”, UMG signee and Afrobeats vanguard, Tiwa Savage has taken the gospel of Afrobeats to NPR via their much-celebrated Tiny Desk Concert, making her the second Afrobeats act to do so. Ever since its release, the project has generated polarizing opinions and conversations across social media. But regardless of where you stand on the divide, you can’t deny Tiwa’s artistry and her prowess as a vocal powerhouse which was evident throughout the 13-track project. And she brings all this to bear on this in-door concert as she performs some of the fan-favourite cuts off the days-old album.
For her performance, she brings along the popular band Alternate Sound but solely handles the mic with no backups. Yet this doesn’t make her the least bit uncomfortable because as mentioned earlier, her vocal prowess and dexterity were on full display, breathing new life into these records. She also gave a live rendition of ‘Like’, a 2017 Reekado Banks record which she featured on when they were still label mates. Other records performed in the concert filmed at Jazzhole, Lagos include ‘Dangerous Love’. ‘Attention’, and the club-ready ‘Koroba’.
This performance comes just a few hours after she delivered an electrifying set at the Notting Hill Carnival which took place in West London over the weekend.
