Listen To Tems’ Debut EP “For Broken Ears”

Tems has been of the best gifts 2019 gave to us. Many were (re)introduced to her amazing talents with her stunning debut ‘Mr Rebel’ which served a breath of fresh air to the pacy percussive sound that dominated the music space at the time. She brilliantly followed this up with ‘Looku Looku’ which was reaffirmed what people had come to know from its predecessor. By the time she released her liberating and empowering anthem, ‘Try Me’ Tems had won the elites and streets over. She even made appearances on the biggest shows in the year-ending series of concerts off the back of this culturally and commercially triumphant record.

And although this year appears to be relatively silent from the singer save for her surprise single ‘These Days’ and teams up with Khalid, Davido, Odunsi and more, it appears we are still in for a treat. A few days ago, she announced on her live session on Instagram that she has her debut and introductory EP coming before the end of the month.

Now, after giving us our first taste of her coming debut EP with its lead single ‘Damages’ exactly a week ago, “For Broken Ears” is now out on all major DSPs.  This new EP contains a total of seven tracks without even a single feature 0n it.

These days a lot of people listen to find fault, compare and criticise. But not to actually feel and understand the message. The only explanation is that your mind, through your ears, is broken. This one is for you too. Free your mind,” she wrote on twitter just a couple days ago.

‘Damages’ which is already generating good reviews and gaining traction on the airwaves is a Spax-produced record graced with a delightful dancehall bounce that wins you over right from the first listen. Tems croons about an old fling trying to get back to her life and she’s not even ready to have any of that. “You missed the way, inna the chance/ I live my life without you with me” she reminds him.

Released yesterday, the video directed by Ademola Falomo finds Tems delivering the record in a house where it appears herself and her girls are having a fun-filled girls-only slumber party.
