Falana Kicked Off Her Chapter One (EP) Tour With A Night Of Indelible Artistic Experience

On Friday, August 16, Falana kicked off her Chapter One Tour. The Neo-Soul and R&B singer had fans, family and friends gathered at the Terra Kulture, Lagos, for the first stop of her tour which is set to hit other African cities like Accra, Kigali, and Abuja.

AYLØ serenading on stage

AYLØ serenading on stage

After thrilling performances by opening acts, Deena Ade, Celeste and Aylø -who just put out an impressive project “Dnt Dlt“- the star of the night, Falana was ushered on stage to a rockstar’s welcome, as she quickly takes us to church with “O God, here I am...”

Backed by her beaming six-piece band, the Nigerian-Canadian singer took us through her recently-released “Chapter One” EP, delivering acoustic renditions of some of the standouts of the well-received project, thereby giving them a flavor different to the way they were consumed on the tape.

Radiant and commanding on stage, Falana ran us through a run of old picks such as ‘To Zion‘, ‘Feel Your Energy‘, ‘Start Again‘ and ‘Dynamite‘. One of the highlights of the night was her performance of ‘Woman’, her somber record centered around women empowerment, highlighting the outstanding contributions of women in our society. Mid-performance, she broke into a monologue that accentuates the grim realities of single women in a patriarchal society such as ours.

Falana saved the best for the last as she closed her 1 hour 30 minutes set with her popular single ‘Ride or Die‘. The live rendition of this song filled the room with a gripping air of nostalgia, inciting the already captive audience to sing along to the standout record.

That wasn’t the end of the fun though, as everyone headed to Club 57 for the Culture Custodian-hosted after party.

The Lagos show was indeed a night to remember loaded with a pure and indelible artistic experience that left the audience roaring in appreciation. Her next stop is Accra where she would be treating unsuspecting Ghanaians to her thrilling performances. What a way to kick-off a tour!

Odunsi Takes Us Back In Time For ‘Wetin Dey/ Better Days’ Video

Odunsi (The Engine) has shared a video for his latest releases, ‘Wetin Dey/ Better Days‘, which have been gaining much traction on the airwaves. Spanning just over four minutes the video contains visuals for the two singles with their separate but united themes.

A student of the past, the video is highly inspired by the pop culture of the late ’90s and early 2000s as it is fashioned after the music videos of the time, particularly in terms of the scenery, editing and fashion.

Wetin Dey‘ opens with Odunsi having a good time with friends. The video then transitions into a dark and intense video for ‘Better Days‘, seemingly inspired by classic Nollywood. It opens with a murder scene and later finds Odunsi and his cohort running off in vintage Mercedes Benz.

This grotesque video is beautifully directed by the usual culprit, Ademola Falomo and Odunsi himself.

Odunsi Takes Us Back In Time With Double Treat ‘Better Days/ Wetin Dey’

The poster boy for the Alte community, Odunsi (The Engine) is back with his second post-‘rare.” release after he dropped the scintillating ‘Tipsy’ with UK singer Raye. And this time, he is here with a double treat, releasing two new singles titled ‘Better Days‘ featuring Wani and ‘Wetin Dey‘.

For these records with are set to hit the streets, he finds inspiration in legends, Paul Play Dairo and Ruff Rugged and Raw.

Produced by GA, ‘Wetin Dey‘ interpolates Ruff Rugged and Raw’s classic of the same-titled which was one of the biggest street bops in the early 2000s. The song was also previewed on the PGM Live on Wednesday. ‘Better Days‘ is produced by P2j.

With this release, Odunsi takes us back to a time when -for most of us- our biggest problem was finding X.

Listen To AYLØ’s New Single ‘Paris’

Burgeoning alternative act, AYLØ is back with his first offering for 2019 titled ‘Paris‘. This comes after fervent calls from fans all over social media for a record from the singer. ‘Paris’ therefore provides a taste of what AYLØ has been cooking and also gives the fans something to hold on to as they await further information on the release of his next project titled “Dnt’dlt” (Don’t Delete).

With ‘Paris‘, AYLØ delievers a soothing and melodious record over a simplistic and minimalist production. With his emotive vocals on full display, he croons about how he is helplessly in love with his sweetheart. “We are all damaged …” he resigns.

Paris is about finding beauty in everything. Beauty is in our damage and in our stories. Paradise is what you make it. ‘Paris’ is the subject’s favourite city, so hence the concept of. Beauty, if in, is out, and as above, so below. Me never having being to Paris, it wouldn’t matter because I’ve found paradise in Lagos… Right now, in this (that) moment.” He reveals in an interview with Tmrw Magazine

This song is co-produced by Le Mav and Odunsi The Engine.

DRB LasGidi x Odunsi Linkup – ‘Necessary’

2018 makes ten years of DRB LasGidi, the original Alté kids. The group – rappers Teezee, FreshL and singer BOJ – have given us solid gbedu over the years.

DRB recently came out with a compilation project of songs they’ve put out to celebrate a decade on the music scene – DRB10. They also hosted the DRB10 rave for fans to enjoy their favourite DRB LasGidi bops.

In ten years, DRB has faced some harsh criticism, especially from those who would rather see BOJ on the path to a successful solo career.

Their latest single Necessary, produced by GMK and featuring Odunsi proves though that these guys are strong as ever. Teezee and FreshL bring fire with heavy-hitting bars and BOJ never fails with his husky vocals.

Watch Necessary here.
