IllBliss Collides With Phyno, Yemi Alade, Niniola & Johnny Drille On “Illy Chapo X”

Veteran Nigerian rapper IllBliss has a very enviable work ethic. The quality of his discography isn’t one many of his colleagues can boast of. Yet, he’s working even harder than ever. Last year, he blessed his fans with two solid releases; “IllyZilla” his joint tape with seasoned hip-hop producer Teckzilla and “Illosophy”, a seven-track EP that gave us a peek into the mind of Oga Boss, the revered wordsmith. But Illy isn’t stopping there. Just this morning, he opened the doors to his long-teased sixth studio album “Illy Chapo X”, and there are also rumours of a joint EP with Bigfoot in the works. With this LP, his 10th body of work, Illbliss is easing into his elder statesman role, and  solidifying his legacy as one of the best to ever do it in these parts,

This album contains 17 tracks, with a total run time of 54 minutes. It also guests some of Nigeria’s finest acts, Phyno, Yemi Alade, Niniola, Johnny Drille and the YBNL general, Olamide.

For the production of this monumental album, he works with a long list of producers including Toye Aru, Kezyklef, Legendurybeatz, Majorbangz, YoungD, Bigfoot, Benjamz, Kwenubeats, Johnny Drille and Shay-who.

Afro-House Meets Afrobeat In Niniola’s ‘Fantasy’ With Femi Kuti

Niniola is the queen of her sound. Ever since the explosive success of her 2017 single ‘Maradona’, she has steadily taken her Afro-House sound to new heights. This attained a new level of success when the record was sampled in Beyonce’s ‘Find Your Way Back’. This is one of the highlights off Beyonce’s much-celebrated 2019 “The Gift” album, packed with an African all-star cast.

Now, after sharing a stage with Grammy-nominated Afrobeat icon, Femi Kuti, the pair have gone further to record and release a new single titled ‘Fantasy’. This is a follow-up to her year-closing single ‘Omo Rapala’, whose video has amassed over 2 million views in just a month of its release.

These steady releases feel like they are building up to her sophomore album, which now feels overdue since the release of her hit-packed debut 2017 album, “This Is Me.”

The new single ‘Fantasy’ is produced by Kel P, and as expected is highly rich in his signature percussive sound. Niniola finds herself at home over the dazzling production as she croons about her fantasies coated in her usual sexual innuendos.

On the track, Femi Kuti serenades with his beloved instrument, the saxophone. He spices up the record, backing Niniola with thrilling riffs. He then lights everything up with a piercing sax solo that reminds us of the magic he did on Wizkid’s ‘Jaiye Jaiye’ over six years ago.

Update: Niniola has also released the Sesan-directed visuals for the record which features a cameo from the serial hitmaker who also produced this record, Kel-P.

Niniola Is A Whole Vibe In The Video For ‘Omo Rapala’

Afro-house songstress, Niniola has opened the new year by wrapping up her unfinished business of last. To the delight of many, she has finally unveiled the visuals for her 2019 sleeper hit, ‘Omo Rapala‘.

The Adasa Cookey-directed video shows us a day in the life of Omo Rapala, an OG, fashion Icon and happening mama in the hood. The video also features appearances from the original omo rapala, Nigerian Fuji veteran, Obesere.

Ycee’s Debut Album “Ycee vs Zaheer” Is Finally Here

After years of waiting, fans finally have their hands on Ycee’s debut album “Ycee vs Zaheer.” Undeterred by Tinny Entertainment‘s attempts to sabotage this release by leaking tracks off the album, Ycee has dropped the much-teased project today, November 8. This comes after three straight weeks of releases including, ‘Dakun‘, ‘Mo Salah‘ and last week’s ‘Wahala Dey‘ that have helped revamp anticipation for the project.

Evident from its cover and title, this album is a direct face-off between his alter egos: the icy cold singing Ycee and the blazing hot rapping Zaheer. On Instagram, Ycee describes the album as a “portrayal of two sides of the same coin.”

It’s Ycee vs Zaheer because I’m my only worthy opponent” he concluded.

Ycee vs Zaheer” is a 15-track LP that features an all-star cast of Davido, Phyno, Niniola, M.S Banks and former labelmate, Dapo Tuburna. Ycee also works with a long list of producers for this album including Syn X, Krizbeats, KO, Willis Give Dem, Jay Popping, Fanatiz, BeatsByKarma, Buzzing Producer, Twoseven, Elmore, J.Bids, Ballartosh and longtime collaborator, Adey.

DJ SNAKE x NINIOLA – MARADONA RIDDIM

A new summer jam is on the rise!

And DJ Snake’s perfect summer jam “Maradona Riddim” is set to own that claim.  Released last Thursday, July 12th, the record has already sparked a mini-frenzy, further fueling the excitement and curiosity of the “Naija to the World” movement.

The original song “Maradona” off Niniola’s “This is me” album was arguably one of the biggest songs in Africa in 2017 and so it makes perfect sense for a renowned Dj such as Snake to give this song an extra lifeline, nudging it even closer to an all-time African classic

Niniola has already solidified her position as Nigeria’s Queen of Afro-House. She was recently nominated for “Best New International Act” at the BET awards and previously in 2018 was nominated for the Best African Artist Album at the South African Music Awards.

As DJ Snakes prepares to release his album, be sure to expect more as MARADONA RIDDIM comes off as a single from the album.

Niniola stuns in new Maradona Video

According to inside sources, NINIOLA is currently counting down to the release of her debut album in the summer. And when asked what the album title would be called, all we were told is “The Album is about her.”

Banky, You’re Crazy for This One: A Review of Fuego Senoras

7 female musicians. 10 tracks. 1 crazy producer. When we first heard about Bankyondbeatz’s concept for Fuego Senoras, Spanish for Fire Ladies, we were intrigued by not only the gender equalizing theme but also the range and depth of talent featured on the EP.

It kicks off with “New Things” where Muna alternates between rapping and singing over a smooth and soothing piano and percussive beat. Eli’s soft and tender vocals are the perfect complement to the light instrumental on “Come Through”, a beautiful love song and one of the standout tracks off the project.

On “Fale Comigo”, Banky teams up with Lady Donli in creating a mid-tempo jazz styled groove with a light trap feel that is simply a brilliant fusion of so many different sounds.

“Hearts” Desire featuring DJ Yin is another instant favorite with its heavy pana-inspired snares and Yin’s mature and controlled vocals.

“Takeover” and ‘Ago Alago” featuring Deena O and Niniola respectively depart from the overall sound of the project up to now with Deena flowing off the Caribbean vibe on “Takeover” and Niniola telling a cautionary tale of patience on “Ago Alago”.

The penultimate track on the EP is “Pensive” featuring budding femcee A.T.  Her fast paced patois-laced rap style and Banky’s production weave seamlessly into an intricate story that, although personal to A.T, can easily be the soundtrack to the mind state of the average Nigerian lost in a hustle.

Usually with this many features and guest appearances on a project it can be very difficult for a unique identity to be formed but the variety and interesting fusion of the Bankyondbeatz’s production matched by strong guest appearances from Lady Donli, DJ Yin, Eli and A.T elevate it and give it a cohesive mix that makes the EP more than just a sum of its parts.

This project has us very excited at the pgm club.  We earnestly look forward to more music from Bankyondbeatz.
