Alpha Ojini, DJ Yin & Tolani discuss “Indie vs Signed” on PGM Radio

In this episode, DJ Yin premiered her new single ‘Let Go’, while Tolani walked us through the motion of recording her smash hit single ‘Maybe Baby’ and Alpha Ojini stopped by to play us his amazing album ‘Chvmeleon.’

DJ Yin Ushers In African Dance Music With ‘Let Go’

The DJ who also doubles as a singer, DJ Yin has released a new single titled ‘Let Go‘. This is her first post-“Life of Fatima” record, her 5-track EP released to good reviews in March. This new record was exclusively premiered on the PGM Radio Show yesterday with Douglas Jekan and Tolani.

This song features DJ Sketch and Echo who also produced the record. With this single, she introduces what she calls African Dance Music (ADM), which appears to be a smooth blend of EDM and Afrobeat elements.

Let Go‘ finds DJ Yin showing off her soothing vocals as she croons about her romance with her sweetheart. They appear to be going through a rough patch which threatens the survival of their relationship, but Yin isn’t ready to let go. Not just yet.

Listen to the infectious record above.

Oma Mahmud’s ‘Jalo’ With Lady Donli is a Call to Rethink the Nigerian Exodus

Oma Mahmud wants us to have tough conversations. Conversations we often shy away from especially through our escapist music about the allures and pull of luxury and excesses in a country that has become the poverty capital of the world. Over his next string of releases, the eccentric act, Oma Mahmud, seeks to undertake an enquiry into the state of the nation. And he kicks things right off with a Lady Donli assist on ‘Jalo‘, the first single from his next album aptly titled, “State of the Nation.”

Jalo‘ is also his first official release since his last album “Rockstvr,” an 11-track project released earlier this year, that guests new wave acts like DJ Yin, Prettyboy D-O, Damayo, Yung L and more.

On the self-produced record, Oma Mahmud and Lady Donli are united in crooning over the appalling socio-political state of the nation as well as the migration-centred orientation of its youths. Many have sadly given up on the deteriorating country and see migration to the West as the only viable shot at a better life. In plain street lingo, everyone simply wants to ‘japa‘.

However, the pair are sceptical of this exodus-is-a-must mindset – “Who go remain for we country o, if to say me and you we dey plan to go?” Mahmud rhetorically asks as he opens the record.

Sonically, ‘Jalo‘ is an afrobeat record highly rich in instrumentation, particularly with its heavy bassline and guitar loops. With a call-and-response chorus common in the message-laden genre, both acts come through with their reflective and pensive verses without being overbearing. The song is co-written by Ayomide Olufawo who also contributed background vocals to the beautiful record.

Enjoy the record and let us know if you agree with Oma Mahmud and Lady Donli.

A rare. Debut – Odunsi’s First Album

Pulling off a debut project that will make history books is hard. Making music that is inter-generational is even harder, but Odunsi has done it. The singer’s debut album premiered on the PGM Live radio show last Wednesday, an amazing private listening party on Thursday and the official public release on all platforms finally came through on Friday.

rare. is Odunsi’s first debut and it’s taken this vanguard two years to come through with this project. While some fans were mad that it’s taken their fave so long to put out a compilation, one listen to this superstar quality debut and you’ll understand why. The project samples the Funk/Disco sounds of the 70s/80s and some spins on 90s Hip-Hop and this has to be the best spin on the sounds produced this year and with such a superb blend of sound, you can’t really hate Odunsi’s music. With rare. we see Odunsi take sole charge of his brand aesthetic, adding to the redefinition of what it is to be an African artist in this age.

rare. is successfully inter-generational and will go down in history as one of the best things to happen to Nigerian music since Fela

The album boasts features from mainstream and New School heavyweights: Runtown, Davido, Nasty C, Zamir, Tay Iwar, Lady Donli, Santi, Duendita, Amaarae, Hamzaa, Solis and 234Jaydaa. All the tracks on rare. are produced by Odunsi (save for Alté Cruise which was produced by Yinoluu, Take Me There produced by Le Mav and Outcast produced by Genio Bambino) with help from GMK, DJ Yin, Nosapollo, and Davido.

We waited two years to receive this piece of heaven and it should not by any means be squandered. Listen to rare. here.

Bankyondbeatz & Dj Yin turn up in ‘Good Loving’

We’re not ignorant of the great musical chemistry that exists between BankyOnDbeatz and DJ Yin. The duo has been giving us great music since they collaborated on the Fuego Senora EP. Exploring their impeccable working relationship in the studio, they’ve created yet another awesome tune in ‘Good Loving’.

Good Loving is a new approach to the music style being created between Banky and DJ Yin.
This song has them explore a more EDM sound fused with the Caribbean feel to it, as DJ Yin sends a message of good loving and good vibes.

At some point, we’ve all found or are yet to find that good love in our life and this song helps us move and step to that feeling. The question is, are they both in some good loving?

We at The PGM Club recommend it to all good music lovers. It’s another great sound from Bankyondbeatz and DJ Yin.

Genio Bambino drops the (EP) Virtuoso

This may come as a late post, but that is also because we couldn’t fully understand the meaning & purpose of the project Virtuoso.

So we asked a few internal questions; Does the project sound good? Hell yeah!

Does it sound fresh? Hell yeah!

So, we reached out to Genio and asked him a few questions;

What is the purpose of this album?

“The purpose of the album is basically to show how skilled and diverse I am, because on this project I sang, rapped, wrote, produced, mixed and mastered the whole project.”

Why did you put it out now?

“I decided to put it out now because I felt it was the right time to come out as Genio Bambino because a lot of people don’t know I have changed my name and have not noticed the growth and changes I have been through.”

What inspired the collaborations?

“Neo Africa inspired the features. All the people I featured are my friends and I wanted to show how dope they are and I also wanted to showcase Nigerian underground at the moment.”

Who is Genio Bambino?

“Genio Bambino is the youngest monster boy. He raps, sings, writes and produces. I was kinda feeling myself when I gave myself the name because it means “Boy Genius” in Italian and that’s how I feel.”

After all these questions were answered, we asked ourselves (internally) the last question;

Will we recommend it to others?

We certainly will! And we also hope you get to listen to it and perhaps share it with your friends.

Don’t forget to drop a comment and let us know what you think.
