Dami Oniru Seeks To Lift Our Spirits With ‘Nowhere To Run’

For the past few months, fans have been pestering Dami Oniru for new music. The last we had heard from her was her EP “Bri’s Lounge” released to good reviews last year. In February, she celebrated its first anniversary with the stunning ‘5 Shades Of Bri’ visual, walking us through the entire project and all the emotions that come with it. We had a new video to hold on to, but still no music asides guest verses on a couple of projects. This is why fans threw themselves into an orgy of celebration when she announced new music via her Twitter a few days ago.

“Yes! Finally” a fan tweeted. “YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” screamed another.

And one can share in their excitement knowing that despite being stuck in Atlanta, Dami Oniru is finally giving us new music to help “lift our spirits” in these dark times.

Teaming up yet again with her tried and true producer, friend and frequent collaborator Remy Baggins, Dami presents an empowering anthem with ‘Nowhere To Run’. “The song is basically about losing yourself and basically rediscovering your power,” she says in a recent interview with Native Mag.

One thing that immediately strikes you about the record is that it sounds like a good fit for the Lion King Movie. And you might be shocked fo find out that that’s exactly what it was created for. “You will hear that the song sounds like a soundtrack for a movie, its cause it was a demo I wrote for Beyoncé’s Lion King: The Gift album. It’s inspired by Lion King, and I think the message in the song is really powerful so I thought no better time than now to spread the positivity,” she reveals further in the interview.

We are all not going through the best of times now, and this is what Dami Oniru’s new record attempts to heal. ‘Nowhere to Run’ plays as a hymnal for deep, honest reflections, driving us to work through our weaknesses.

Dami Oniru Unveils Cinematic ‘5 Shades of Bri’ Video

In celebration of her birthday yesterday, February 5, the sweet-singing Dami Oniru has unveiled her first music video ever. And this video titled ‘5 Shades of Bri’ walks us through a medley of the standout cuts off her well-received debut project, “Bro’s Lounge.”

Directed by Ademola Falomo well known for his works with Santi, the video opens with a dark and intense visual to ‘Alive’. Clips of a gloomy Dami Oniru sulking in her room is then juxtaposed with what appears to be a ritual at the cemetery. Dami Oniru eventually finds peace as she picks up the bible.

This then swiftly transports her to a celestial realm by the pool as she sings the soul-sinking project opener, ‘Higher’.

The video, however, gets more exciting when Dami Oniru channels her inner Harley Quinn as she wanders around her supposed ex’s car over ‘Ready’ and ends up smashing its windows.

D-Truce Celebrates Album Anniversary With ‘Conversations’ Video

In celebration of the first anniversary of his debut album “2 Birds 1 Stone,” Nigerian rapper, D-Truce has released the first video off the project. This is a video Truce describes as the “most creative music video ever made by a Nigerian.” And a quick look into it proves that that’s not too far from the truth.

Shot by Agbawo Nesta for Nestastudios, the team turns a creative block into brilliance crafting the video from a random collection of boomerangs. The creative twist is reminiscent of Ryan Staake’s finesse in the video for Young Thug’s ‘Wyclef Jean’.

The video also features appearances from some of Nigeria’s most gifted young acts like BarelyAnyHook, Remy Baggins, Tems and Dami Oniru

Dami Oniru Assists Ladipoe’s ‘Slippin’ Away’

Ladipoe has released the third entry off his ongoing Revival Sunday series -apparently the last for the year – and unlike the first two instalments, this one comes with the first feature in the pack. For this week’s record titled ‘Slippin’ Away‘, the Mavins Records flagship rapper seeks the assistance of one of the most gifted vocalists on the rise, Dami Oniru. This Trap&B record is produced by London, the only other constant in the Revival Sunday series so far asides Ladipoe, and is engineered by Dami Oniru’s friend and frequent collaborator, Remy Baggins.

A record specially tailored for the night time, ‘Slippin’ Away‘ opens with a pensive feminine monologue. Over sombre keys later joined by 808s, Ladipoe raps in his signature polished flow, lamenting about the depleting energy of his partner in their relationship. On her part, Dami Oniru, as usual, comes through with superb vocals adding that golden touch to one of the highlights off this weekly rap series.

Triple Threat: PsychoYP Releases New Singles Off “YPSZN 2”

PsychoYP is finally treating us to a taste of his soon-to-be-released project, “YPSZN 2” with three singles all at once. Just last week, the rapper announced the release date and tracklist of the follow-up to his stellar tape, “YPSZN” which was released to good reviews and has even amassed over a million streams – an impressive feat for an artist on the rise. And with the release of the three new tracks off “YPSZN 2“; ‘City Of Kings‘, ‘Elevate‘ and ‘No Chaser‘, we have a feel of what to expect on the coming project.

According to the unveiled tracklist, the project will feature appearances from Ladipoe, BOJ, Dami Oniru, Skales, Terri and more across 16 tracks.

City Of Kings‘ which happens to be the album opener is a worthy introduction to the project as it finds PsychoYP in his element, riding for his city over rolling hi-hats and hard-hitting kicks. The record is also littered with striking ad-libs reminiscent of Desiigner‘s 2015 monster hit, ‘Panda‘. On ‘Elevate‘ Afropop meets hip-hop as PsychoYP interpolates Olamide‘s ‘Motigbana‘, coming through with a relaxing melodic rap over a laid back instrumental.

But of the three releases, the Terri-assisted ‘No Chaser‘ takes the cake. This song enjoys a brilliant and catchy hook from Terri with PyschoYP stepping up with playful brags over the radio-friendly tune.

If these records are anything to go by, the sophomore curse has nothing on YP as the tape is already sounding like a worthy sequel. Remember, “YPSZN 2” drops on Monday, November 4.

As expected, all the songs are self-produced and engineered. Remy however, enlists the efforts of other instrumentalists like Efe Jazz, Sir Bastien and Saxofix who help to provide an additional live feel to the already erotic project.

Despite appearing officially as a featured guest on only one track, Dami Oniru makes other significant contributions to the tape by co-writing and offering additional vocals.

According to Remy Baggins, “Hentai” a short form of the Japanese phrase, hentai seiyoku which directly translates to sexual pervasion.
