Psiv speaks up against brutality and impunity in his debut single ‘Gangland’

Psiv is a Lagos based, 22 year old multi genre artiste who expresses his art through various genres such as Drill, Afroswing, Dancehall and Trap. He is a multidimensional creative, lawyer and entrepreneur.

His debut single ‘Gangland’ featuring South African Drill artiste, Espiquet, is a testament to the rise of Drill music in Africa. Gangland has a conscious message addressing police brutality, government impunity and the general anyhowness that is the norm for not just Nigeria but African countries. Its fiery beat and angsty lyricism gives it its pecularity.

Speaking on his style of music, he says ‘I’m a multi genre artiste, so I express my art through genres such as Drill, Afroswing, Dancehall and Trap. Having picked up on diverse musical influences from childhood, my music represents the multiple sides there are to me.
It is me trying to be the most authentic version of myself: detailing my experiences and fantasies through multiple genres and excelling at each one. Right now we’re witnessing the Drill phase with my Official Debut single “Gangland” and my forthcoming debut Project, and I’m just trying to show all that’s happening right now in Nigeria while still getting the people lit’

As for his musical influences he disclosed that, ‘At the onset, artistes like Nelly, Lil Wayne and the then YMCMB era, MI, Saucekid and Naeto C were some of my earliest influences. Right now, my most significant influences would have to be Burna Boy, Dave, J hus and Skepta.’ Psiv is definitely one to watch out  for and you can click here to listen to his new single.
