Oxlade has come a long way since that scene-stealing appearance on Blaqbonez’s 2018 single ‘Mamiwater’.  And ever since, the 23-year-old singer has been on a feature-killing spree, built a very organic but expansive fanbase and kicked it on stage alongside some of Nigeria’s biggest stars including Wizkid at the O2 Arena. Just last weekend, the singer released his debut and introductory EP “Oxygene” which is fast generating rave reviews from listeners and critics. And asides the upbeat lead single ‘Away’, another highlight of the brief tape is ‘Tables Turn’ which houses the only guest on the EP, Moelogo.  

Over the soft but gloomy Echo production, Oxlade and Moelogo take us on a quick trip down memory lane to the days when all they had was their gifts. A time when their audience was limited to eager friends who cheer their best efforts as they try to forge their raw talents into shining diamonds. But now, the pair have come so far in the scene, and as believers of Karma, they attribute some of their success to their good spirits and genuine energy.

‘Tables Turn’ is that subtle victory lap that recognizes the significant growth they have recorded since they broke out. The duet reminds us that no condition lasts forever, admonishing that whatever position you find yourself in, just try to be genuine in your dealings. Be a good person. “Just be doing good…cos good nahin be koko” they tell us.

The song also takes a stab at detractors who dismissed them in their come up days. “Only if they know say the boy go blow…Them for no reason am bad…them for no try to bring am down” Ox sings.

Oxlade is well on his way but he isn’t there yet. He knows it.  And that’s why the record and by extension the EP ends with a heartfelt prayer of blessings and remarkable success from his beloved grandmother.
