Nigerian singers, Stanley Omah Didia known better as Omah lay and Temilade Opeyin alias Tems with her manager, Muyiwa Awomiyi have been arrested and charged to court by the Katwe Police on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious disease C/S 171 of the penal code in Uganda.
In a viral tweet yesterday from the Police’s official Twitter handle, they announced the arrest and it’s reason being a concert which flouted the country’s Covid-19 guidelines;
@Patrickonyango1 “Three people have been arrested in connection to the unauthorised concert that was held last night in Ddungu Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala City”.

Those arrested are Ivan Ddungu, the manager of the place where the concert was held, Omah Lay the musician and Prim Kasana, Events Manager, who contracted Omah Lay to sing.
An hour ago, the police went on to elucidate that earlier plans to have the artists released on bond have been withdrawn by the DPP( Director of Public Prosecution) and they, plus four ugandans will be remanded until Wednesday 16/12/2020.
Ivan Ddungu, manager of the event center, had posted yesterday on Facebook that they had clearance from the police and even security for the concert provided by members of the Ugandan police force. While the artists and event planners erred as Corona is a public health matter and governments need to do all in their power to protect their citizens, the grouse for many Nigerians seem to be that Ugandan artists at the concert weren’t arrested only foreign ones. If at all artists and not show organizers are to be arrested, isn’t it fair for all artists to be rounded up. Is this justice or extreme high handedness to exude power?
