New Music Releases: Songs from Mr Eazi, Popcaan, L.A.X, Phyno, Pheelz, and many more

It’s a new year and the industry is already buzzing with fresh sounds. 2022 was no doubt a strong year for the Nigerian music industry. It was popping with lots of international collaborations e.g. “Calm Down Remix” by Rema ft. Selena Gomez, “Kulosa Remix” by Oxlade ft. Camilla Cabello, “Wait For You” by Future ft. Tems, Drake, “For My Hand” by Burna Boy ft. Ed Sheeran. There was also the advancement of more alternative sounds and genre-blending. Amanpiano was a sound that was quickly adopted and heavily experimented with.

Most Nigerian videos garnered massive views on YouTube, most viewed was Rema’s “Calm Down” with 292M views and the remix gaining over 182M views. Burna Boy’s “Last Last” comes in third place with 134m views. We are excited about all the goodies the new year brings music-wise. MR EAZI – “Werser”

Award-winning musician and serial Entrepreneur Mr Eazi delivers his first single of the year titled “Werser”. It is an upbeat Amapiano song with an infectious melody to vibe and have fun to. He partners with talented Mozambique producer, Dj Tarico for this tune with the catchy phrase “the pressure is getting werser.” Business-wise, the serial entrepreneur started the year off by investing in one of Africa’s Biggest Basketball clubs, Cape Town Tigers. He announced; “I read that Jay’z got shares in a NYC basketball team! So I had to do my own to ff my mentor!! Happy to announce I am now a shareholder of @CapeTownTigers the best basketball team in Africa from now going forward! See you at the next game! PHYNO FT. OLAMIDE – “Ojemba”

Phyno comes through with “Ojemba” and tags along his favourite partner in crime, Olamide for the ride. The two indigenous rappers are a powerhouse especially when they come together. They have given us several hit sons over the years such as Ghost Mode, Fada Fada, Augument, Onyeoma and the likes. On Ojemba, they flow calmly appreciating God for their lots in life and everything they’ve overcome. They sing their appellations with majestic titles like Ojemba Enwe ilo which translates to ‘he/she that journeys to foreign land should strive not to court enemies’ which explains the Igbo adventurism; their capacity to adapt, patiently learn from, acclimate to, and carve out a niche for themselves in a strange country. PHEELZ – “Stand By You”

“Stand By You” is a love song which professes the singer’s commitment to his lover. Pheelz melodiously affirms fidelity and unwavering dedication. He does this with powerful lyrics which convey his intentions. “I put nothing above you (You), You know I put nothing above you, So many lie but girl you’re the truth (Truth), And I’m so proud to call you my boo, I’ll stick with you just like a tattoo (-Too), Forbidden love like it’s taboo.” Click here to listen.

 

POPCAAN FT. BURNA BOY – “Aboboyaa”

With his album Great Is He, Jamaican dancehall singer Popcaan adds yet another chapter to the legend of his career, following up on his scorching-hot “We Caa Done” collaboration with Drake. The album spans 17 tracks and includes features from the likes of Drake, Toni Ann-Singh, Chronic Law and more. Aboboyaa, the 6th track on the song features African Giant Burna Boy and is littered with catchy lyrics and slick vocals. 1DA BANTON – “Call Jehova”

On Call Jehova, 1Da Banton directs people in times of problem to keep their eyes transfixed to Jehova, the author and finisher of our faith, for the Christians at least, and not him as he also looks up to Jehova in his time of need. “If you get problem no dey call me, call me, Call Jehova eh, Onome call Jehova eh, We dey call Jehova eh.” It is a smooth record worth adding to your playlist. L.A.X – “Rora”

Rora is L.A.X’s debut for the year and is produced by Shyne. It follows his Sempe remix with R3HAB from last year. It is a banging Amanpiano tune designed to be a party starter. Listen here

 

BOY SPYCE – “Folake”

On Boy Spyce’s debut for the year, he makes a special single for Folake. He sings about her attitude change and how it affects him because she makes his heart beat. He desires for her to change so they can move forward with a more desirable relationship. Listen here

JINMI ABDULS – “Saro”

Jinmi drops this party-starter jam as his opener for the year. The talented singer-songwriter releases this as a successor to his “Heavens” single. This song is guaranteed to get you dancing and in the mood to party. Listen here
