Native Sound System release their debut album.

To champion collaboration between different artists and music producers, the Native Sound System began a mission two years ago to make a compilation project that showcases the beauty of blending different creatives and now the album is here. This mission began in the year 2020 at recording camps in London and Lagos with DJs Addy and Sholz and Seni the Editor of the Native Magazine spearheading the production process, selecting artists to feature, song arrangement, and A&R. Now, they have released the highly-anticipated project which features artists like Ayra Starr, Lojay, Odunsi (the engine), Wani, BOJ, Deto Black, ObongJayar, The Cavemen, Joyce Olong, NSG, Show Dem Camp, TeeZee, Azanti, SOLIS, Odeal, Prettyboy D-O, MOJO, Psycho YP and many more.

Earlier this year, fans got a chance to get a glimpse of the project with the release of “Runaway,” one of the lead singles that featured Lojay and Ayra Starr, while “Wedding Ring” served as the follow-up track that set the tone for the project. One fun fact about “NATIVEWORLD” is that it is themed around the seasons we experience living in Nigeria from the rainy season to the summer season all of the seasons were fully represented in the songs. With Addy and Sholz handling the gear of production sounds like Afrohouse, Afropop, Afrobeats and many more were explored which gives the project a rare edge because whether you are a fan of Afropop or Drill, you’d find your musical preference in “NATIVEWORLD.”

While speaking about the project Shola Fagbemi, the executive producer and co-founder of NATIVE Sound System, shares that, “I think that there have been challenges but you know the actual recording of the album was nice. What grinded my gears was the process of putting out the album, which was stressful because we had to deal with the industry side of things. Generally it’s been nice to work with so many different artists and producers and I’ve learned and grown a lot in the process. Even as a producer, I never used to make Afrobeats but I’ve got some Afrobeats records on the album. It’s been a great learning experience, I feel blessed to have been a part of it. Just need to get better at the industry side of things.”

Production credit goes to  P.Priime, DOZ, Tyler Turner, 4Play, GMK, Sholz, and many others. The Native Sound System has succeeded in creating a project that cuts across different sounds and places different creatives together which in turn led to the creation of a masterpiece. Listen to the project here and let us know your thoughts about it.
