In the year 2020, one of the top record labels in Nigeria Mavin Records unveiled Magixx as its latest signee. The artist made his debut with his self-titled EP which had stellar records like “Chocolate” and “Love don’t cost a dime.” Now, to continue his run in the industry, the singer and songwriter have released his sophomore EP tagged “Atom,” a 4-track body of work that sees the artist singing about love and advising listeners to not take life too seriously. The intro record titled “All Over” has the artist making sweet promises to his muse with lyrics like, “I go wait if na ten years e go take, na only you fit light my fire. Where you dey? shey I go fit see you today your body fit cut my wire.” He tells her not to worry as long as she stands by him. If you are looking for a love song to dance to then “All Over” should be added to your playlist. “Weekenjoyment” is hinged on the YOLO movement. Here, Magixx encourages listeners to live life to the fullest and enjoy the moment. “Shaye” is largely the same record as the previous single with the same theme and catchy beats “Life no be snippet, what is my business? I just wan make this money, make I dey on reflex yeah. Mi o de re ni body, emi ko fe shaye oo mo ko fe shaye o.”
In “Forever,” the artist sings about his lover’s beauty and confesses his love for her. He sings, “Sho ma duro demi, duro demi. Because I’m in love with you.” However, one of the drawbacks of this project is the length. A 15-minute runtime is not enough for an act to make a lasting impression in the ever-growing slew of new music; they might be two tracks on this project that might top a few charts, but the next logical step to take for Magixx is to make projects with stronger impacts and singles with longer chart-topping life span. Production credit goes to Reward Beats, SarmyFire and Louddaaa. Stream “Atom” here and enjoy.
