Prettyboy D-O already seems set for the release of his new “Wildfire” EP scheduled for release later this month. Last year was filled with a string energetic releases that suggested to fans that a project was on the horizon. But 2020 in all its troubles has been quite interesting for D-O. The coloured-hair rapper has been on a spree of killer features, nourishing his brand, and teasing the soon-to-be-released tape. And just a few hours ago, Prettyboy D-O opens his year by giving us our first dive into the coming tape with a Tim Lyre-assisted single, ‘Odeshi’.
Produced by frequent collaborator DaRe, ‘Odeshi’ is a bouncy trap tune that plays as a warning to detractors and adversaries. D-O opens the record raping with a bullish delivery about him having one hell of a good time. But the energy switches up right in the hook as he forewarns, “you wanna come for the boy? Odeshi go back to sender”. Tim Lyre also matches up the vibe with his stirring verse well woven in English, pidgin and Yoruba. One other interesting thing about the record is how it plays as one endless loop when you have it on repeat.

Nigerian rapper, Dusten Truce has teamed up with Bella Alubo on new love number titled ‘For You‘. This is D-Truce’s first post-“2 Bird 1 Stone” release, his debut album which was released to good reviews early this year. The 6-track album housed highlights like ‘Celebrity Champagne‘, ‘Oga police‘ and ‘City of Excellence‘ and also featured appearances from Paybac, Straffitti, 3rty, Slayvelli, Dewa and Tylerriddim.
On this new Jesse Alordiah produced cut, D-Truce and Bella Alubo are love-struck as they trade verses describing their affection for one another, promising themselves sunshine and rainbows in their blazing romance. ‘For You‘ is no doubt a soothing and melodious love number with wonderfully diced afrobeats percussions and an ambient scintillating guitar riffs.

When people talk about how much they love Paybac Iboro’s sophomore album ‘Cult!’, one song that keeps coming up as a favourite is the second lead single off the project, ‘Activ8’. Opening with raw but gripping keys, head-bumping kicks and a faded but stifling baseline the rap finds Paybac in his element, delivering stream-of-consciousness verses about how he keeps pushing against all odds in this country. On the striking and highly infectious hook, Paybac raps, ‘Activ8, activ8, activ8, young Samuel Oparaji, I’m balling till I pass away. Legends only die on a Saturday, get the plug if you want activate‘.
He also dropped the beat for free online, inspiring scads of freestyle verses from some of the brightest rappers in Nigeria, known and unknown. But for the remix of such a standout single, Paybac seeks the big dawgs, the tested and trusted wordsmiths revered all over for their sharp pen. He brings along Ghost of SDC, Vector the Viper and Boogey, his friend and frequent collaborator who all came through with jawdropping and thoughtful bars on the record.
