We know 19-year-old Lanaire Aderemi as Verse Writer; the passionate feminist, spoken-word artist, poet, writer and art enthusiast; we’re adding music to that list now though with the release of her debut EP, a collab with UK-based rapper King Solomon Ancient History.
Knowing the principles Lanaire stands for, it’s no surprise that the project is centred on breaking constructs of gender and race. The artists describe the EP as ‘an EP for the culture. Explore and deconstruct the racial politics and Western ideals present in and surrounding the black community’. The Of Ivory and Ink author has never shied away from using music in her expression (as with her performance at the Lemon Curd 2.0), but this is definitely the first time she’s put it out in a way that we can always go back and listen. Ancient History explores themes from white privilege to police brutality to why black women are angry. Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, King Solomon said ‘at a time were identity, race and politics are as important as ever, we hope this EP helps move certain conversations and minds in the right direction’. The EP has amazing vocals from King Solomon and Lanaire and pulls production from Gold, JBZ Beats, The Beat Plug and Esoteric Records.
Lanaire is doing her part in saving the world and shifting paradigms and The PGM Club gives this beautiful compilation of work a 5-star rating.
