Johnny Drille’s “How Are You (My Friend)” Is an Anthem For Everyone.

Fresh off the back of releasing his debut album “Before We Fall Asleep,” Nigerian singer/songwriter John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille has made his 2022 musical debut with the song “How Are You (My Friend)” Before the song was officially released, there was bubbling anticipation for the record after a video of Don Jazzy and Johnny Drille appeared on the internet. In this video, Don Jazzy talked about his mother’s death, the importance of checking up on people and how friends treated him after losing his mother. Here, Johnny Drille teams up with Don Jazzy to deliver an anthem that resonates with everyone because of its relatable lyrics and how it speaks to everyone in times like this where mental health is important to everyone, a time where having a friend to call might be the only medicine required to be healthy.

On “How Are You (My Friend)” Johnny Drille sends a message to his friend. For this artist, he takes friendships seriously and dedicates his time to being there for his friends “I know sometimes e be like say nobody send you that one na lie I dey for you my friend.” Through this song, Johnny positions himself as everyone’s friend, a shoulder to cry on, someone to call when the clouds are grey and anytime you listen to this song, it would definitely prompt you to call your friend “See my shoulder make you rest upon. The money don show now I don keep some for you, you no go suffer rara.” Asides from producing the song, Don Jazzy lends his distinctive vocals to the song making it more melodious.
