2018 makes ten years of DRB LasGidi, the original Alté kids. The group – rappers Teezee, FreshL and singer BOJ – have given us solid gbedu over the years.
DRB recently came out with a compilation project of songs they’ve put out to celebrate a decade on the music scene – DRB10. They also hosted the DRB10 rave for fans to enjoy their favourite DRB LasGidi bops.
In ten years, DRB has faced some harsh criticism, especially from those who would rather see BOJ on the path to a successful solo career.
Their latest single Necessary, produced by GMK and featuring Odunsi proves though that these guys are strong as ever. Teezee and FreshL bring fire with heavy-hitting bars and BOJ never fails with his husky vocals.

Rema‘s story is one like no other. Ever since he was activated and unveiled by Mavin/Jonzing World, the young lad has been a star. His debut and introductory self-titled EP, “Rema” which housed smashes like ‘Dumebi‘ and ‘Corny‘ kicked off his rapid ascent to fame and mainstream success, and it has been a joyride from there. In less than a year, the singer has released three EP, won the coveted Headies Next Rated award, featured on the Obamas‘ summer playlist, and looks poised for even more international exploits.
On this high-speed journey, Rema has made a quick stop to unveil the visuals for ‘Lady‘, a fast-paced standout off his third 2019 EP, “Bad Commando.”
Directed by Tadas, the video finds a veiled Rema strapped to a chair with arms behind. He is the captive of a dancing damsel who at a point opens his eyes to a world of romantic hedonism. Rema himself looks to be a willing captive as throughout the ordeal, he doesn’t for once show any sign of discomfort or even attempt to escape.

Chocolate City act Ckay has released a live rendition of ‘Love Nwatiti’, one of the fan-favourite cuts off his “CKay The First” EP. Just a couple of weeks ago, he shared the official remix of the single which features Nigeria’s 2019 breakout star, Joeboy and Ghananian Kuami Eugene.
The black and white video finds the singer who doubles as a producer singing the song live while assisting himself solely with the keys. No doubt, this “acoustic version” will make you fall in love with the record all over again and remind you of CKay’s amazing talents.
About six months ago, CKay released his sophomore EP to good reviews. The project contains just eight tracks, features appearances fellow new-gen acts, Blaqbonez, BOJ, Barry Jhay and former label president, DJ Lambo. For the production of the album, Ckay recruits Tempoe and Real Btee while he also produced three tracks himself.

The sweet-singing Johnny Drille isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. All through the year, the Mavin Records signee has been steady with his releases as well as freestyles which he shares periodically on his social media pages. Now, Johnny Drille is back with another self-produced record titled ‘Papa‘ a few weeks after the release of ‘Finding Efe‘. This, therefore, makes it Johnny’s
As implied by the title, the song finds the folk singer appreciating his dad and crooning about his spirituality spurred and serviced by his father. Backed mainly by stifling strings and solemn keys, Johnny Drille opens the record by recounting the fatherly advice he was given when he was much younger to have his life guided and guarded by faith and prayers. He then describes how his father keeps in touch with him regularly and reminds him not to let go of his spirituality in the strange land he currently finds himself.
His story may sound familiar to most Nigerian youths born into Christain homes thus making the record a highly relatable one. His vocals are calm, soothing, and at a point powerful, filling the record with so many emotions that can melt the heart and even move some to tears.
“I’ve waited so long to put this song out. Fathers don’t ever get as much appreciation as they deserve. It is my most personal song yet and I hope you connect with it on some level” he wrote on Twitter.
