With two massive singles, multiple awards, a stellar Coachella performance and a couple ambassadorial deals secured in just six months, you can’t deny that Burna Boy is having a good year. And it’s even about to be better. The dreadlocked fusionist is set to release his new album, “African Giant“, later this month. In fact, you can pre-order the tape right now on iTunes, Apple Music and Google Play.
In less than three weeks, we would be treated to the follow-up to his seminal project “Outside“, which scored an impressive 7.7 rating on Pitchfork, a top American review site. The album/ mixtape – or whatever Burna chooses to call it- housed hits like ‘Heaven’s Gate‘, ‘Streets of Africa‘ and ‘Ye‘ which saw him tilt the balance of power in the industry and establish himself as “one of Nigeria’s preeminent musical ambassadors” in 2018.
Scheduled for release on Friday, July 26, the album “African Giant“, is titled after his self-ascribed nickname popularized following his infamous Coachella font-size rant on Instagram earlier this year. The project is set to be 19 tracks-long with the total listening time spanning about 1 hour, 4 minutes. The album contains all his afrobeat-laced post-“Outside” releases including ‘Gbona’, ‘On The Low‘, ‘Dangote‘ and the raving ‘Anybody‘. Unified by their apparent Afrobeat influences, we knew these records were building up to something bigger and gladly, our suspicions have been confirmed.
The singer has also shared what is perceived by many to be the official album cover of the forthcoming project although he hasn’t confirmed that yet. Hopefully, in the next few days, we’d get to see the tracklist and the featured acts on the anticipated project.
Earlier today, the singer was unveiled by Apple Music as their new ‘Up Next‘ artist and the consequential film is set to be released next week Tuesday, July 16.
