Burna Boy’s Feature On Sam Smith’s ‘My Oasis’ Is Yet Another Flex Of His Range

Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed a surge in our Afrobeats flagbearers enlisting worldwide superstars for collaborations in what was majorly perceived as a bid to tap into their guests’ fanbase and market, ultimately. But even more recently, given the proliferation of the Afrobeats sound all across the world, the tables are fast turning as it is these “worldwide superstars” that are coming over to demand appearances on their records.

Just last year, Beyonce hosted an all-star cast of Afrobeat frontmen for her culturally-relevant album “The Lion King: The Gift”. The extensive guest list included features from Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi and more. And this year has even seen more of such collaborations. Earlier this year, Khalid tapped RCA-signed acts Davido and Tems for ‘Know Your Worth’ and Skip Marley sought assists from Davido and Oxlade for ‘Slow Down’ remix. And there’s are even more instances.

Now, in one of the unlikeliest of collaborations, British golden boy Sam Smith seeks the help of the African giant himself, Burna Boy, for his latest single ‘My Oasis’. The past year has witnessed the Grammy-nominated star joining forces with Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, J Hus, Jorja Smith, YG, Damian Marley over a wide scope of sounds. And even though this new record finds him on yet another new turf, Burna delievers yet again.

Over this mid-tempo love ballad, Sam and Burna take turns to totally win over their respective lovers who seem to be losing interest. Burna Boy takes it easy, slow and smooth and he lays out those sweet heart-melting words to his lady.

Enjoy the single above.
