You just can’t seem to put Blaqbonez in a box. From his days as a battle rapper to him being a boom-bap wordsmith to a trapper and now into his commercial forays, the 100 Crowns rapper is ever shapeshifting. Just last year, he introduced us to his new patios-rhyming and dancehall alter ego, Mr Boombastic with his EP that guested Falz and Blackmagic.
And now, the ever-mutating Blaqbonez is officially opening the year with an Afropop banger spiced with dancehall and afrobeat elements. Titled ‘Haba’, this is solo jam is an offering heading straight for the clubs and dancefloors.
For the accompanying video, Blaqbonez teams up with one of the most creative video directors in these parts, TG Omori who provides a replay-worthy visual. The video finds Blaqbonez indulging his hedonistic desires as he totally submits himself to the advances of his love interest.
One thing that comes to mind while watching this video is that; Blaqbonez is slowly but intentionally positioning himself as that rapper with a salient commercial appeal. And going by how hard ‘Haba’ sounds, this might just be that crossover smash that makes him a household name.
