London based singer and songwriter, Dyo formerly Ms.D, has released a new single ‘Let them talk’ featuring the Duduke crooner,Simi.

Dayo Olatunji professionally known as Dyo is an English singer and songwriter. Her dad is from Nigeria while her mum is from England. Her formative years were had in East ham, London where she was born.

Under her previous stage name ‘Ms D’, she was credited as the featured artist and co-writer for all three of rapper wiley’s hit singles from his 2013 album The Ascent including UK Chart #1 Single “Heatwave”. In December 2012, she was featured on “Dependency”, the debut single by English singer Charlie Brown. She is also known for her vocals on rapper Chip’s 2009 UK Chart #1 single “Oopsy Daisy”. Ms D was credited as a songwriter and backing vocalist for Iggy Azalea’s 2013 single “Bounce”

In 2018, she collaborated with Adekunle Gold on his About 30 album in “Down with you” and has since then continued to gain increased popularity in Nigeria. In 2019, Dyo released singles like “Can’t buy my love” and “Arena remix” with Adekunle Gold. By Jan 2020, she then dropped her EP “Dyologue” which had tracks like “Real,”Arena”,”Go all the way”,”Can’t buy my love”, “Papaya” featuring Afixana and “Plans.”

She has lots of credits for her songwriting as she has worked on quite a number of songs like “Put it down” “Can you hear me(Ayayaya), “Reload”,”Sexual”,”My ones”,”Lonely Night”,”What lovers do”,”Bad vibes”,”Calypso”,”Name on it” as writer or co-writer for local and international artists such as; Burna boy, Stefflon Don, Sweetie,  Fifth Harmony, SZA e.t.c.

Peruzzi releases new music ‘southy love’ with Fireboy DML

Peruzzi releases new track called ‘Southy love’ produced by P.Prime. This is a quick follow up to his hit single ‘Isolova’. Southy love infuses Amapiano and Afrobeat and was taken from his much anticipated 14 track album ‘Rum and Boogie.’ However, no offical date has been announced for its release. YBNL artiste, Fireboy DML lends his harmonious vocals to the song creating an explosive banger to the delight of many fans.

The song talks about the length and breadth the singers would go to reach the object of their desire. Peruzzi sings that he wants to see her tonight, he promises to catch expensive flights for her breaking boundaries and barrier on his way to her love.

National Anthem by Psycho YP drops

Nicholas ‘psycho yp’ ihua-madueyin, 21 year old, Afro Trap artist, releases his new body of work ‘National Anthem’ with tracks such as ‘Flex N Ball’ and ‘Attention’. These songs feature oxlade, lyta, Merry-lynn and Azanti. Producers involved in this project includes; Big fish, Lames, Jaylon with mixing and mastering by Timi Jay.

Speaking on his music since his first EP release and what he desires to do with Trap in Nigeria, he states that ” I have done two collaborative EPs with fellow artist Kuddi titled “This Is What You Wanted” and “This Is What You Wanted 2”. In the summer of 2017, I performed in over 30 shows and have released three official singles since then, two of which are on the YPSZN mixtape. My singles Losing You & Black Card have enjoyed high rotation on radio stations in Nigeria and UK. The joint music video for Losing You & Black Card was released via Linkup TV in the UK and premiered on MTV Base West. I released my 15-track debut mixtape, titled “YPSZN”, on 8th June 2018 with the hope of pioneering trap culture in Nigeria and chart my way to the top of the new wave of urban music breaking barriers in Nigeria and beyond.” With a million streams on Apple Music, he is glad many are becoming believers of Trap in Nigeria. He shows the promise to elevate Nigerian Trap to international heights.

Tomi Owo releases remix EP for her song, ‘Beautiful’

Tomi Owo is only known for good music. She just dropped her remix EP for her song, Beautiful. Beautiful has been on the radio top 100 charts for 11 weeks. For a new artist, this is quite a commendable feat.

The Nigerian singer, songwriter and song arranger grew up writing poems and listening to various types of music. Early exposure to her mother’s original compositions and extensive record collection can be seen in the quality of her songs. Her sound is soulful yet mellow, elegant yet unafraid and her vocal dynamics aureate and wide-ranging. Emotive and moving can be said to be spectacular features of her life performances. The singer states classics, indegenous sounds and soul as her musical influences. Tomi Owo’s style cuts across soul, jazz and R&B.

Her debut 5 Song EP ‘Pieces’ was birth in 2018 following her resolve to do at least one song a month while working a 9-5. This was to explore her sound and songwriting and also help her stay in touch with what mattered most to her. She considers music a gift and channel through which stories can be told to inspire change, hence her lyrics are based on everyday experiences.

The remix E.P to her song, Beautiful contains remixes done by by various artists and producers using various styles and genres. Masterkraft does an afropop remix with percussions and complex intersecting rhythms. But he doesn’t leave it at that, he also does an Amapiano remix. This new south African House music is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge sounds characterised by staple keys, signature shakers and cloud-like pads. It gained precedence in the mid 2010s and has been described as the sound to which the sun turns.

Major League DJz also have an Amapiano remix on the EP. The South African duo are known for inculcating kwaito music into modern music for a unique, urban sound. Ghanian DJ, TMSKD pronounced as The masked and Sigag, Nigerian Producer and Dj both explore the song, Beautiful, this time with EDM but in completely different ways. TMSKD goes hard while Sigag’s remix is very soft bringing a unique, sonic experience to the E.P.

This project will be a joy for DJs to have fun with.

Rema addresses his personal tragedies and those of disgruntled Nigerians in ‘Peace of Mind’

Twenty year old Mavin superstar, Rema, has just released a new song ‘Peace of mind’ which is currently making waves as it profoundly touches on the personal tragedies the singer has faced this year which a lot of Nigerians and Africans living under monstrous, inept and mudering governments can relate to. Rema rose to prominence following the release of ‘iron man’ which appeared on Barack Obama’s summer playlist. He has received multiple awards such as Next rated and Viewers choice awards at The 2019 Headies as well as Souncity MPV for best new artist. He was also nominated alongside Wizkid and Burna boy for the 2020 BET awards for Best Viewers Choice; International act.

The Benin bred singer speaks up against the pain he harbours despite his accomplishments due to the senseless harrassment, brutailty, buthchering and maiming of innocent citizens, by leaders who should protect them, which leads him to despair. Tragedies quite heartfelt by Nigerians as a lot experienced grief seeking for their missing relatives and loved ones with others plain out mourning the dead a few months back from police brutality on unarned citizens. He explains that neither money nor fame nor sex can make up for his sense of loss in a cold, unfeeling world.

Recall that a few months back, Rema had alleged that memebers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have been responsible for the death of his father who was a Judge.

Speaking about the song, Rema said: “I talked about how much I yearn for peace because of the thoughts and voices in my head due to what I’m facing personally and what my people are facing as well. So many bad things have happened, and I know many people can relate.” This song was produced by Kel P vibes.

Stonebwoy features Davido in his new music and video ‘Activate’

Livingstone Etse Satekia known more popularly as Stonebwoy or 1GAD, is a Ghanaian Afropop, Dancehall and Reggae singer. A recipient of two Billboard plaques and global ambassador of sanitation. He is also the CEO of Burniton Music Group with multiple awards such as The Best International Act; Africa Category at the 2015 BET Awards, Artist of the year at the 2015 Ghana music awards.

The singer born in Ashaiman, Accra of Ghana has four albums; Grade released in 2012, Neccessary Evil in 2014, Epistles of Mama 2017 and Angola junction 2020. This multifaceted rapper normally renders his rap in Jamacian patois and has been described as the king of Reggae and Dancehall in Africa. He describes his style as Afro dancehall.

Following the release of his Internationally acclaimed album ‘Angola Junction’ album, Stonebwoy has just dropped his first single and it’s video with Nigerian superstar, Davido. This was recoreded in Accra, Ghana where Davido went for a weekend and the music video shot in the next 24 hours. Produced by Mix Master Garzy.

Speaking on how he wants to be remembered in his career. He says ” A boy from the ghetto who didn’t give up but inspired people. That one who had to struggle for a long time but who still made it. That one who made an impact in people’s life through the music,through the lifestyle, and by representing them. This question is like 80years ahead of me. But between then and now, I hope God helps me along the way because I know I’m going to put in a lot of work and try to create significant moments and milestones. No one is going to be able to forget me because my name is going to be right there in front of their eyes. That’s the mission.”

Flavour releases seventh studio album ‘Flavour of Africa’

At midnight, flavour dropped his seventh studio album titled ‘Flavour of Africa.’ This is following his last album ‘Awele’ and 2019 E.P, ’40 years(Everlasting)’ with Chidinma. His previous albums include: N’abina, Uplifted, Ijele-The traveller, Blessed e.t.c. The Nigerian singer, songwriter amd multi-instrumentalist shared that  his new album shows his transcendence and transformation within his music and social responsibilities. Famous for songs like Nwa Baby(ashawo remix), N’abina, Adanma and the likes, fans have been expecting and are excited to listen to new music from the popular highlife singer. His style is a fusion of Highlife, contemporary Jazz and Afrobeats.

The Enugu bred artiste has moved from drumming in his local church to being centre stage as one of the resonant highlife sounds in Africa bagging multiple awards along the way. In 2016, Flavour launched his Flavour of Africa tour which had Flavour perform in a number of countries in West Africa where he also made notable amount of donations to charity.

The album ‘Flavour of Africa’ consists of 15 songs and has 55minutes play time. The tracks in this album are: Flavour of Africa, Good woman, Berna, Looking ynash, Omotemi , Egwu ndi oma, Skit, Doings, Product of grace, Umuigbo, Sawa sawa, Beer parlour discussions, Odoyewu, Ebube, Omeihuoma and lastly Bestie.

Reekado Banks releases sophomore project ‘Off The Record’

Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon , popularly known by his stage name, Reekado Banks released his sophomore project ‘ Off The Record’  6 days ago. This is following his album debut, Spotlight, released on the 31st of August, 2016 . A twenty one tracked album featuring the likes of Sarkodie, D’ prince, Falz the Bad guy, Vanessa Mdee and Patoranking, which received lots of positive reviews and charted top on itunes less than twenty four hours after it was released.  It also debuted No. 10 on the Billboard World Album chart.

He was signed to Mavin Records in 2014 where he stayed for five years before leaving for his own record label, Banks Music in 2018. One of the most talented singers to come out of Nigeria, the artiste’s infectious afropop sound has earned him multiple awards which includes but not limited to: Rookie of the year; The Headies Award 2014, Next rated Award; The Headies Awards 2015, Most Promising Act of the Year Award(male); City People Entertainment  Awards 2015, Best Album; Headies 2016 HipHop Word revelation of the Year; The Headies Award 2018 e.t.c.

Ex-Project fame finalist, Immaculate Edache releases new single ‘Aiye’

Immculate Edache is a talented singer, songwriter and stage performer whose extraordinary talent lifted her from her small catholic church to national stardom. With a vocal range that covers three octaves, she was the first runner up in the third edition of Peak Talent Hunt Show in 2011. In 2013, Immaculate’s music career really took off, after coming first runner up in the sixth edition of MTN Project fame, West Africa. She got signed into Vivace Records owned by renowned music producer Ty-mix where she released successful singles like ‘osanle’ and ‘gogobaby’ before eventually going independent and starting her own label,  Dache Entertainment.

After going independent in 2016, she went on to release ‘sugarlala’, ‘love affair’ and ‘obiyekum.’ She also had her debut stage performance in Olu jacob and Joke Silva’s 2016 theatrical musical ‘ Heartbeat the musical’ where she played the role of Iya Sidi. She released her EP, Q1 and debut album Q2 in 2018.

Immaculate’s however disappeared from the limelight for a while and this caused many to wonder where the voluptuous beauty had gone. Speaking to Sunday Scoop, she said; ” I have many outstanding projects that have taken so much time to be unveiled to the public. I am super excited about all and the gradual process of execution. Like it is usually said, it is not how far but how well. The end result is all that matters.” She had also commented about how harsh the music industry was for reality show winners who were unprepared for the lavish extravagant apperance they had to keep up with in the industry while still fresh in the game and unable to keep up.

Yemi Alade’s Empress is a party banger

Yemi Eberechi Alade popularly known as Yemi Alade, released a new album last week titled Empress which is a rich mix of diverse genres and a party banger right off the start. Empress is the igbo-yoruba singer’s fifth studio album following her critically acclaimed album, Woman of Steel. The album cover showed Yemi Alade looking very fierce and regal in African attire which is very on brand for her Mama Africa aesthetics. The album has rich songs crisscrossing Afropop, Gospel House, Coupe Decale, Highlife and Dancehall.

Empress houses power collaborations with both Nigerian and other African music superstars. The tracks in this album includes: True love, Yoyoyo, Mamiwater, Lose my mind featuring Vegedream, Dancina, Boyz, I choose you ft. Dadju, Control, Temptation ft Patoranking, Ice, Deceive ft. Rudeboy, Turn up, Rain featuring Mzansi Youth choir, Weekend featuring R&B Grammy winning British singer Estelle and double double.

The album also features songwriting and production contributions from Vtek Da Awesome, Egarboi, Jimmy Huru, Yung Felix, amongst others.

On creating her new album, the talented songwriter and singer disclosed ‘If there is one thing that we have learnt this year, it’s the power of Love & inner strength. Love for God, self, service & for one another coupled with the strength to fight injustice and to carry on regardless of the circumstances.

Love & inner strength kept the world moving through the dark clouds of 2020. With that in mind, I was blessed to create my fifth album titled Empress.’ An Empress is a woman who is a sovereign ruler of power and rank, especially one ruling an empire. It is undisputable that Yemi Alade seeks to dominate Africa with her music.

Yemi Alade rose to fame after winning the 2009 Peak Talent Show and released her hit single ‘Johnny’ in 2014 under Effyzie music limited. Yemi Alade not only continues to release hit single upon single but works harder at consolidating her place as the queen of pop in Africa. She does this solidly with Empress. It gives very good vibes and there is no way you can listen to this album without dancing. We give it a 7 out of 10.
