“Hey Boy” by Sia ft. Burnaboy out now

International artist, Sia, is set to release her new album “Music” which contains 14 tracks including ; Together, Hey Boy, Music, 1+1, Courage to Change, Eye to Eye, Miracle etc. Her last track is another version of Hey Boy, this time featuring African popstar, Burnaboy. The songs on this album are from and inspired by the singer and songwriter’s musical drama directional debut which bears the same name with the album arriving February 12.

Hey Boy was initially released November last year with millions of streams on digital platforms. Music caused quite a ruckus in the autism community after Sia was criticized for casting a non-autistic person to play the lead autistic role.

Burnaboy is no stranger to International collaborations as seen in 2020’s Oasis with Sam Smith which went on to become a hit single both home and abroad. He has worked with the likes of Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, pop smoke, Jorja Smith, Major Lazer, Dj Snake etc. He inflects his African sound in Hey Boy with Sia which adds more depth and rhythm to the already amazing song. He also made it on Barack Obama‘s summer 2020 playlist for that same song. “Already” on Beyonce’s lion king : The gift , was perhaps his biggest project of 2020.

The video opens with Shatta wale in bed with two women. He gets up and the camera follows him round the compound before getting to an entourage singing . The song was produced by The Beatz vampire. The video shot at Maaha Beach Resort and directed by PKMI. The video has already amassed over 200k views on YouTube.  Click here to see it.

Khaligraph Jones x Sarkodie – Wavy

Multi-award winning East African rapper, Khaligraph Jones releases Wavy featuring Ghanaian veteran, Sarkodie. Prior to Wavy’s release, the Kenya rapper had bragged that African hiphop would not remain the same and boy, did he deliver.

The first verse starts with Khaligraph spitting hard, fire lines over the sick beat created by Motif the Don. The rapper alternates between English and Swahili to decapacitate his adversaries and establish himself as the fly, wavy man that he is. Sarkodie takes over the next verse bringing it to a climax rapping in his usual native tongue reminding us why he is one of the best to ever do it. The duo compare themselves to Ronaldo and Messi and while that might be up for debate, the lyricism and dexterity employed in this song cannot be denied.

Both rappers make cars their main props as they are seen rapping beside and inside different cars. Khaligraph in a red Toyota Crown and Sarkodie a rolls royce. The video  was directed by Blu Ink corp. Already, the official video released a day ago has over 50,000 views and if you want to see it, click here.

Berlin based Nigerian artist, Garey Godson, releases “Macking Things”

Berlin based Nigerian artist, Garey Gordson releases new single ” Macking things.” This is his first song for the year which gains inspiration from Mark Morison’s “Return of the Mack.” It’s a feel-good tune which draws influences from dancehall and afrobeats elements. The floating sax, rhythms, drum patterns and mellow chords blend nicely with Gareys vocals. This comes shortly after Garey dropped his single ” Minding my business “ and his 13 track sophomore album ” Still I rise ” last year.

Garey’s story-telling approach on this record paints pictures of a short romance, a topic to
which many millennials can relate. He also touches on the subject of ego in relationships
and encounters. In his words “growing up as a young man, we are socialized to suppress
our emotions or not speak about them. This in turn affects our real life relationships. I want to
touch and mirror every emotion lucidly through my music…”

The record was produced by Zion Beatz, a Nigerian producer. Hkmk German based
producer, co-produced, mixed and mastered the track. The artwork was illustrated by Ebube
Onoh, a Lagos based artist. This tune is a juicy one to kickstart the new year. Click here to listen.
