Afro-House Meets Afrobeat In Niniola’s ‘Fantasy’ With Femi Kuti

Niniola is the queen of her sound. Ever since the explosive success of her 2017 single ‘Maradona’, she has steadily taken her Afro-House sound to new heights. This attained a new level of success when the record was sampled in Beyonce’s ‘Find Your Way Back’. This is one of the highlights off Beyonce’s much-celebrated 2019 “The Gift” album, packed with an African all-star cast.

Now, after sharing a stage with Grammy-nominated Afrobeat icon, Femi Kuti, the pair have gone further to record and release a new single titled ‘Fantasy’. This is a follow-up to her year-closing single ‘Omo Rapala’, whose video has amassed over 2 million views in just a month of its release.

These steady releases feel like they are building up to her sophomore album, which now feels overdue since the release of her hit-packed debut 2017 album, “This Is Me.”

The new single ‘Fantasy’ is produced by Kel P, and as expected is highly rich in his signature percussive sound. Niniola finds herself at home over the dazzling production as she croons about her fantasies coated in her usual sexual innuendos.

On the track, Femi Kuti serenades with his beloved instrument, the saxophone. He spices up the record, backing Niniola with thrilling riffs. He then lights everything up with a piercing sax solo that reminds us of the magic he did on Wizkid’s ‘Jaiye Jaiye’ over six years ago.

Update: Niniola has also released the Sesan-directed visuals for the record which features a cameo from the serial hitmaker who also produced this record, Kel-P.
