Just a week after delivering a teeming verse alongside Wizkid and Omah Lay on DJ Tunez’s ‘Pami’, Adekunle Gold has released his long-teased third studio album “Afropop, Vol.1“. This is a project he first announced on the PGM Radio Show on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, when he premiered ‘Kelegbe Megbe’.
This new album completes Adekunle Gold’s transition into the African pop space, a move that visibly started to take shape from last year’s ‘Before You Wake Up’ but can be traced down to his sophomore album. “About 30”. He has been substituting his signature traditional African sound for something more pop-centric, trendy and synth-led, and we love every bit of it.
This new album contains just 10 songs and it features appearances from Nailah Blackman, Patoranking, Olayinka Ehi and Tekno. It is led by just two pre-released singles, ‘AG Baby’ and ‘Something Different’. Other releases that led to the build up of this album but are notably absent include the Kizz Daniel-assisted ‘Jore’, ‘Kelegbe Megbe’, ‘Before Your Wake Up’ and ‘Young Love’.
Enjoy the album above.
